Food and Fiction: Throne of Brownies

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas | Chocolate Mousse Brownies

I adore mousse and brownies. So when I found a recipe on Tumblr, mixing both of the desserts together, I knew I had to create this recipe. The moment I began baking this dessert I immediately began imagining Celaena Sardothien, from the Throne of Glass series, enjoying this yummy dessert because she has a major sweet tooth. She loves her yummy foods and this recipe was the perfect one to match the epic series that she is in.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her … but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead … quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

My thoughts

Throne of Glass is a widely popular series that everyone adores, including me. It is action packed, has unique characters that you will fall in love with, and mystical fantasy elements that will leave you spell bound. It follows a fierce female lead that you will want to emulate the moment you finish the first novel. The series is incredibly long with large amounts of character development and new problems that will whisk you off your feet in a new adventure that you won’t want to end. Although, at points, the fantasy plot confused me or dragged, I still love this series and cannot wait to see how it will wrap up.

Chocolate Mousse Brownies

This recipe definitely should be made during the colder seasons. I made this in the midst of summer and because my house was so warm, the mousse began to melt off my brownie within a few minutes. It was a snack that I had to eat fairly quickly before it began to droop onto my plate. The recipe is simple to follow and is chock full of sweetness that you will become obsessed with, if you are a big fan of chocolate, like myself. Just make sure to chill your dessert for a decent amount of time to let the mousse firm up before serving! Other than that, this would be a great dessert to make for a party during the winter because it can be sliced into small pieces and shared with many friends!
