Summary: Love is a circus

“Every day,” he says lowly, “I hold a person’s life in my hands. The circus is based one-hundred percent off trust. I give it all to someone, and they give it all to me.”

The best aerial technique won’t land 21-year-old Thora James her dream role in Amour—a sexy new acrobatic show on the Vegas strip. Thora knows she’s out of her element the second she meets Amour’s leading performer. Confident, charming and devilishly captivating, 26-year-old Nikolai Kotova lives up to his nickname as the “God of Russia.”

When Thora unknowingly walks into the crosshairs of Nikolai’s after-show, her audition process begins way too soon. Unprofessional. That’s what Nik calls their “non-existent” relationship. It’s not like Thora can avoid him. For one, they may be partners in the future—acrobatic partners, that is. But getting closer to Nik means diving deeper into sin city and into his dizzying world.

Thora wants to perform with him, but when someone like Nikolai attracts the spotlight wherever he goes—Thora fears that she’s destined to be just background to his spellbinding show.

This sexy and exhilarating New Adult Romance can best be described as Cirque du Soleil meets the steamy, athletic romance of Center Stage.

My thoughts: I read this New Adult novel in one day because it was that addicting and mystifying. I have always been very interested in acrobatics ever since I saw many acrobatic shows when I visited Las Vegas. So finding this book set in Las Vegas where the two protagonists are acrobats really hooked me when I read the summary. From the moment I began this books, I was sucked into Thora’s story of perseverance and strength. She fought against the skeptics in her life to move to Vegas in order to try and become apart of an aerial act that could make her dreams come true. All seemed smooth sailing until she met Nikolai who is intimidating, sure of himself, and notices Thora in a way that no one else does. Their relationships begins to grow in a unique way because they are both working towards the same goal of working their hardest in the circus. But that doesn’t mean that a romance can’t brew between them in the process, right?

I am obsessed with this book. There are so many things that I adored that really made this story what it is. I loved Thora’s undying strength and determination to get a job in the circus despite the trouble she goes through and all the doubt people embed inside of her. She is a strong character that really connected well with Nikolai who had a similar personality to hers that made me love them so much. Nikolai has problems of his own but not in the typical angsty NA male protagonist way. Nik has to basically raise his large family all while working in the circus with them in the ever changing Vegas. It showed a warmer side of him when he was sometimes gruff and made me really fall in love with his character and how he developed throughout the book alongside Thora.

This book is so captivating from the descriptions of the aerial tricks the characters perform, the burning romance, the mystical descriptions of how dangerous Vegas can be to people’s characters, and the family aspect of this book which was very prominent. This wasn’t a typical NA novel. It had a diverse set of characters including some strong side characters who lightened the story with their humor and storylines that weren’t blurred under the protagonist’s storyline. I also really adored how both Thora and Nikolai knew not to make each other their whole world and learned to balance love along with their dreams which were equally important to them. It showed an important message that sometimes you can love two things equally and you don’t have to just forget about your dreams just because you were falling in love with someone. It felt so much fresher and realer than other NA novels I’ve read, and I highly recommend you check it out.
